Goals for Oct. 8, 2010


Lindsay Blackburn: WJHS seventh/eighth grade Resource Teacher, teaches LA and wants to learn about a reading/writing program that allows students to gain more independence while making progress.

Wendy Cowan: Resource room teacher at WHS, here today to get more familiar with Kurzweil.

Beth Goodwin: Envisions Kurzweil as a special education tool, but would like to learn how to assist general education teachers in utilizing this program with struggling writers and readers.

Lauri Lyman: Parent of a 15 year old with dyslexia. She is continually searching for ways to make him more independent. She is looking to find a good writing tool for him and she has always had Kurzweil in the back of her mind and has been waiting for years to have a local Kurzweil training that can be used with Macs.

Cheryl Oakes: UMaine bought a Kurzweil license for their campus. They would take apart entire books, scan them and utilize this software in their learning centers. Cheryl knows of multiple students who have been empowered via Kurzweil because it allows many students with learning disabilities to succeed with challenging material.

Susan Smith: Seventh grade special educator from Freeport Middle School. She is here for one specific student but plans to learn more information that can help many students. This program can scan what she wants students to read and then the program will help his (her student's) eye movement follow along (track) according to his reading speed.

Kristin Jortberg: Resource room teacher, teaches classes in grades 9-12 (english). Looking to use this program in her classroom.

Rletta Van Natta: Wants to learn more about this program to help the students she works with. Looking for a tool that is useful for her students to accompany them while reading.

Barbara Provencher: WHS ed. tech. works with all different kinds of students, in all different kinds of classes and sees students struggling to read the directions in subjects such as math. She hopes that this program can help.
